Belong in a Small Town

Holiday shoppers, white lights strung in trees, huge snowflakes drifting in slow motion, the Park Place Hotel decorated to welcome visitors to a Northern Michigan downtown getaway for the holidays. It's all part of the next season unfolding literally before our eyes as we work in our new offices on Park Street in Traverse City.

We have been in downtown office space since the first issue of Traverse, Northern Michigan's Magazine was published in June of 1981--a part of our love affair with Northern  Michigan downtowns. We were always on the second floor in traditional downtown offices that we've loved, but they are, by nature, long and narrow with windows at the front and back. As such we were in our own little world as we created, and at the end of the day when we walked out it was always a bit of a surprise to step into whatever was going on in town. Now we work at street level at the corner of State and Park, with huge windows lining two sides of our very open office space, literally engulfing us in the pulse of whatever is happening downtown. …
